On the Educational Thoughts and Methods of Dufu's Instructive Poems to his Children

Dufu's Instructive Poems to his Children were mainly written when he stayed in Qin Long and Kuizhou. When in Qin Long, he mainly wrote poems in Sending Words For Friends; when in Kuizhou, he mainly wrote poems in Instructing Personally. Among these poems, Urging Zhongwen to Make Paling for Children, To Zhongwu's Birthday and To Zhongwu embodied his thoughts of education. By these three poems he instructed his children to follow Loyalty, Final Piety, Kindness and Righteousness; to comprehend Confucian classics and to know well about The Selected Collections. His instructive methods varie4 with the development of his children and made different cultivating plans for children of different talents.
