Reconsidering Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions: A Different View on South and Southeast Asian Countries

2021
This research aims to evaluate the impact of national wealth measured by real GDP per capita on the changes in cultural values in 12 selected countries in the South and Southeast Asian region. By applying the Metropolis-Hastings (MH) method, the findings show that national wealth has a nonlinear effect on cultural values expressed in Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions theory. Interestingly, in contrast to previous studies, this research finds that national wealth has a positive impact on Masculinity.
