Observational Results Pertaining to Scatterometer Interpretation
1981
The status of interpretation of microwave backscatter data and air-sea coupling data are reviewed. Discrepancies between expected and observed results from SASS intercomparisons are considered in view of measurements in the overlying shear flow. An extensive set of overwater momentum transfer results are examined relative to the discrepancies. The conclusion is that airflow measurements are not sufficient to extend the present interpretations.
