A Machined Virtual Impactor for PM 2 Detection

2018
This paper presents a machined virtual impactor with the small size of $\mathbf{40\ \mathrm{mm}\times 15\mathrm{mm}\times 10 \mathrm{mm}}$ . The FEA simulation approach is adopted to explore the air flow state in the virtual impactor. And the silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ) particles experiments have proved that the virtual impactor has a good cutting performance and achieved the cut-off diameter of $\mathbf{2\ \mu m}$ at the inlet flow rate $\mathbf{\mathrm{Q}=90\mathrm{m}1/\mathrm{min}}$ . The small size and the remarkable micro-particles separation ability enable the VI be a candidate with great potential for portable particulate matter (PM) detection applications.
