ITOS: Increased throughput with optimized sink position protocol in Wireless Body Area Network

2017
In this paper, high throughput and reliable protocol for routing in Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) is implemented. In this protocol, multiple hop topologies is employed to avail minimum or least energy consumption and extended lifetime of the network. In this paper, a new cost function is proposed for the selection of parent node or the forwarder node. The proposed cost function is used to select a parent node or forwarding node depending on the distance and dissipated energy. Also the nodes with lesser energy should not be considered as a forwarding node. Later, we optimized the position of sink by taking two cases. In case-1 critical nodes are not considered in optimization algorithm and in case-2 critical nodes are considered. Simulation results concludes that the proposed cost function along with case-2 sink position optimization (ITOS) results in increase in throughput and nodes stay alive for longer period.
