The quality of natural grasslands in the region of Stara planina mountain

The quality of plant material is deemed very important in livestock production primarily for the obtaining quality meat and milk. Animal forage should not only be of a good quality but also as cheaper as possible. Pastures are cheap sources of food for cattle, but not always of a satisfactory quality. By examining vegetable material taken from the natural grasslands of Stara Planina Mount and analyzed by standard chemical analyses the data about quality parameters have been obtained. The yield of crude protein ranges from 4.04 to 13.57%, and crude fibre from 20.67 to 37.17%. On the basis of these analyses the quality of natural grasslands is established and certain measures for their improving saught for, with the aim to obtain quality final livestock products.
