INFRARED SPECTRA OF SOME ASYMMETRIC DISULFIDES PRODUCED BY ALLIUM.
1964
Abstract Gas-liquid Chromatographic analysis of vapors from chopped tissues of Allium allows rapid determination of a number of aliphatic disulfides. Elemental analyses, infrared spectra, and relative retention volume data for three synthetic, asymmetric disulfides, methyl-allyl, methyl- n -propyl, and allyl- n propyl, are presented. These infrared spectra and relative retention volumes are used to confirm the production of these compounds by Allium . Species studied were Allium satirum L. (garlic), A. chinense G. Don (rakkyo), and A. ampeloprasum L. (great-headed garlic).
