Surgical Treatment of Thyroglossal Duct Cyst in Children

Objective To summarize the experiments of surgical treatment on thyroglossal duct cyst in children.Methods The clinical data of 12 children with thyroglossal duct cyst underwent operation were analyzed retrospectively in this hospital from May 2006 to October 2008.Results 11 of 12 children healed after ragular cysticectomy including one of reoperation for the cystic recourrence after primary surgery and one with thyroglossal duct fistula after abscess induction.The cyst hasn't been removed in another one because the abscess incision has been performed and thyroglossal duct fistula formed just resently.Conclusion The data suggested that the ragular cystic excision should be peformed on thyroglossal duct cyst or fistula in children as well as the the acute cystic infection has been controlled.
