Evaluation on efficacy of three surgery approaches for the treatment of supracondylar fracture of humerus in children

2013
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of three surgery approaches for the treatment of supracondylar fractures of humerus in children. Methods 77 children with supracondylar fractures of humerus were randomized into 3 groups after diagnosis.Children in Group A underwent posterior tricep splitting approach,Group B underwent lingulate flap of tricep brachii approach, and Group C underwent bilateral tricep brachii approach. The surgical results of all cases were analyzed and compared. Results The incision closure time and duration of surgery of Group C were shorter than those of Group A and B (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01 respectively). The excellent and good rate of elbow function evaluation in Group C was higher than those in Group A and B (P < 0.05).All the differences were statistically significant. Conclusion Bilateral tricep brachii approach is an effective approach for treatment of supracondylar fracture of humerus in children. Key words: Children; Supracondylar fractures of humerus; Operative approach
