Improved gas dispersion method and apparatus therefor

1988
PURPOSE: To improve the mass transfer between gas and liquid by mixing the gas and liquid in close proximity to a flow constriction means capable of accelerating the flow velocity of their gas-liquid mixture from below a supersonic velocity to over the supersonic velocity and subsequently decelerating the flow velocity down to the supersonic velocity or below. CONSTITUTION: The gas-liquid mixture having the flow velocity lower than the sound velocity in the gas-liquid mixture is formed by joining the gas of a pipe 9 and the fluid of a pipe 6. The flow constriction means 2 is arranged in proximity to this gas-liquid mixture point to enable the acceleration of the flow velocity of the gas-liquid mixture to the supersonic velocity and subsequent deceleration of the flow velocity to a sub-sonic velocity range. The gas-liquid mixture is passed in the contact state with this flow constriction means 2 and in this case the acceleration and deceleration of the means 2 act to create the sound wave impulse wave effect rendering the extremely fine dispersion of the gas in the liquid. The proximity of the means 2 to the gas-liquid mixture prohibits the uniform dispersion of the gas and the liquid before the acceleration of the gas-liquid mixture to the supersonic velocity and before the subsequent deceleration to the sub-sonic velocity.
