Competitive sorption as a method for decontamination of materials

2015
The static model is considered for the desorption of a microcomponent from a material on which it has been sorbed by the ion-exchange mechanism, with the competitive sorption onto a specially introduced sorbent as the driving force of the process. The material decontamination factors reached in equilibrium desorption with a solution of a complexing agent and with an aqueous suspension of a competing sorbent are formally equivalent. The example of the sorption of cesium ions onto Berlin Blue shows that the competitive sorption is a promising approach to decontamination of soils and building materials.
