Study on relation between the classification and prognosis of MDS and serum bFGF level in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome

2007
To evaluate the level of bovine basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF)in myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) patients and the significance of bFGF in the development and prognosis of MDS. Levels of bFGF in MDS,acute myeloid leukemia patients (AML),and healthy volunteers were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. The associations between the serum level with the subtypes and clinical factors were analyzed. MDS patients have higher serum bFGF level than normal control. Serum level of bFGF in RAEB and RAEBT patients were higher than that in RA and RAS patients. No significant difference of serum bFGF level was found between RAEB, RAEBT patients and AML patients. The serum bFGF level was correlated with the periphery blood routine and the proportion of blast cells in bone marrow. Serum bFGF level is related to the classification, progression and prognosis of MDS patients.
