Local coordinate system feature description based image matching method

2013
The invention discloses a local coordinate system feature description based image matching method, and mainly solves the problem that an existing method has main direction estimation errors and is low in image matching accuracy. The method includes the implementation steps: 1, performing graying processing on two input images; 2, extracting feature points of each image, and creating N support areas for each feature point; 3, partitioning each support area into k subareas; 4, creating a feature description vector set of each support area; 5, creating a feature description vector set of each feature point by the aid of feature description vectors of each support area, and normalizing the feature description vector sets to obtain a feature descriptor of each feature point; 6, utilizing the feature descriptors of the feature points in the two images to perform image matching, and outputting matched feature point pairs. Compared with a conventional local feature description method, the method has the advantages that during image matching, the main direction estimation errors are avoided and matching accuracy is improved; the method can be applied to target tracking, object identification and image retrieval.
