Effect of combined rolling with subsequent aging on the structure, mechanical and fatigue properties of β titanium alloy

2021
Abstract In the paper the effect of radial-shear and groove rolling with subsequent aging on the structure, mechanical and fatigue properties of the Ti-15V-3Al-3Sn-3Cr-1Mo-1Zr alloy has been studied. It is shown that the specified processing leads to the formation in the alloy of a homogeneous hierarchical structure with lamellar precipitates of the α″-phase 20–30 nm thick in the volume of grains of the β phase with an average size of 10 μm. As a result, it is more than double increase in ultimate strength of the alloy (from 800 to 1630 MPa) while maintaining satisfactory plasticity (5.3%) It was found that such treatment also significantly increases the resistance to the development of fatigue fracture of the alloy at stress amplitudes above 500 MPa.
