INFLUÊNCIA DAS FONTES DE ALUMÍNIO SECUNDÁRIO NA GERAÇÃO DE ESCÓRIA: UMA ANÁLISE ESTATÍSTICA INFLUENCE OF SECONDARY ALUMINUM SOURCES IN THE GENERATION OF SCORIA: A STATISTICAL ANALYSIS

2009
The industry of aluminum recycling has grown and is demanding some adaptation from the management tools concerning this new segment of the market. For the foundry sector, the management of raw materials is fundamental for is sustainability, some critical aspects are related to logistics availability, costs and quality of secondary aluminum sources. The aforementioned management is related to the productivity and profitability of the foundry process, because it has a direct influence on process losses. Data analysis on the production process has been conducted at a small company of secondary aluminum foundry field located in Ponta Grossa – PR. The analysis has aided to establish the current organizational scenario in terms of scoria generation. This research aimed to statistically analyze the sources of secondary aluminum in order to verify its correlation with the scoria generation. The study was based on 214 production flows of the ASTM B319.1 alloy in induction oven. The Regression Model with Binary Variables was used in order to analyze the data. The degree of liability adopted was 5% and the productive flows that featured scoria generation percentage equal or higher than 7% were analyzed. It has been verified that out of the 11 aluminum sources researched, 2 featured positive correlation with the scoria generation: tins and pots. Results showed that the addition of these raw materials increases the probability of scoria generation above the established average at rates of 7,68 and 3,76 times respectively. However, the qualitative analysis based on dispersion graphics pointed out that in flows where the addition of pot was higher than 10%, there is a tendency of negative correlation in relation to the scoria generation. Thus, for an organization that aims to increase the indices of productivity and profitability through the reduction of scoria generation, the use of controlled tins and addition of pots at levels higher than 10% is advisable.
