A simple and efficient method for synthesis of benzimidazoles using FeBr3 or Fe(NO3)3・9H2O as catalyst

-2-Substituted benzimidazoles have been synthesized in good yields in a single pot from o-phenylenediamine and aldehydes using FeBr 3 or Fe(NO 3 ) 3 .9H 2 O as catalyst. The salient features of this method include a simple procedure, mild conditions, shorter reaction time, less toxic catalyst and easy purification.
