The invention relates to a method for casting a cast steel cylinder cover, which mainly comprises the following steps of: 1, formulating a casting process of a cylinder cover by adopting a method of plane parting, designing a pouring system serving as exothermic risers by taking the upper end face of the cylinder cover as a parting surface and by adopting a mode of bottom pouring, arranging two triangular convex plates between the two exothermic risers on the top of a casting mold additionally as slag collecting platforms, and arranging exhaust pipes at three corners of the triangular convex plates; 2, manufacturing a wood die, and positioning the wood die on a shaping plate; 3, manufacturing the casting mold and putting chilling blocks into the casting mold; 4, closing the mold, and drying a sand mold; 5, performing the refining of an LF furnace after conventional smelting, blowing inert gases in the smelting process, and feeding wires after steel tapping; 6, pouring castings and adding an exothermal agent; 7, opening the mold for hot cutting; and 8, performing heat preservation and cooling, and performing heat treatment of quenching and tempering after the rough machining of the cylinder cover. When the method is used for casting cast steel cylinder covers on marine diesel engines, the forming is completed by one step, the yield is high and few defects are generated.
