Airplane Actuation Trade Study

1983
Abstract : This report contains the results of the Airplane Actuation Trade Study Program. The study, conducted in three phases, included establishment of actuation requirements; design of two airplanes (a baseline airplane and an all- electric airplane) and a trade study of the two airplanes plus several minor variants. The trade study includes quantitive comparison data relative to weight, reliability, maintainability, and life cycle cost. The study results indicate that the All-Electric approach did not provide a viable alternative to the more conventional Hydraulic Electric approach as these approaches would be developed and applied to aircraft of the mid-1990 time period.
