MRI-based morphometric quantitative characterization of brain structures, especially in the group and dynamic studies, is complicated by significant variability of skull and intracranial structures size across the population. This requires some additional procedures for measuring the intracranial volume to use it in the statistical analysis of data. There are various methods of automatic intracranial volume segmentation which use different algorithms with different precision of the results. In this paper we compare the modern algorithms for intracranial volume quantification based on MR images in order to find the most accurate and fast tool for use in morphometric studies.
