Synthesis, characterization and scavenger effects on O-2(-) radicals of some transition metal complexes with N- (benzoylamino)thioxomethyl glycine

Abstract Complexes of manganese(II) cobalt(II) and iron(III) with N-[(benzoylamino)thioxomethyl]glycine, C5H5°CNH°CNHCH2COOH (HL), having the general formula MnL(OH). 0.5CH3OH, CoL(OH). 0.5CH3OH and Fe2L2(OH)4. CH3OH have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, IR spectra and thermal analyses. The results show that the coordination structures of these complexes are different from each other. It was also found that the ligand and its complexes possess scavenger effects on O2 − - radicals. The cobalt(II) complex inhibits the lipid peroxidation of a homogenate of mouse liver, but the iron(III) complex accelerates the lipid peroxidation of the homogenate of mouse liver.
