Novel Spark Plug for Microwave Ignition
2018
Herein, we propose a novel coaxial resonator for microwave ignition with a resonant frequency of 2.45 GHz. Our simulation results show that it can generate an electric field intensity of $\pmb{1.9\times 10^{6}\mathrm{V}/\mathrm{m}}$ at an input power of 1 W. For an input power of 150 W, the electric field intensity at the top of the internal conductor could possibly reach $\pmb{2.34 \times 10^{7}\mathrm{V}/\mathrm{m}}$ , which is sufficient to allow an automobile engine to excite a plasma flame at air pressures of up to $\pmb{1 \times 10^{6}}$ Pa. Our experimental findings show that this spark plug can achieve stable ignition for combustion under air at an input power of 90W.
