Disclosed are an information processing device and information processing method for identifying the type of a content item to be copied and performing copy processing in a sequence corresponding to the identification result. In an information processing device for copying recording data of an information recording medium to other media, the type of the data recorded to the recording medium of the copy origin is identified. Specifically, it is determined for the content to be copied whether the type is a playback path specified content item, for which a playback path corresponding to the information processing device is set and playback is performed according to the playback path, or a content code applied content item, for which a playback sequence executed on the playback device is verified in order to verify whether playback processing is performed according to the correct playback procedure. Then, an optimal sequence corresponding to the determination result is applied and copy processing is performed. According to the present configuration, as a result of optimal processing corresponding to various data types, reliable copy processing is achieved.
