Fragments Splicing Method Based on Surface Texture and Fracture Boundary

2018
In the process of natural environment and manmade excavation, the earthen artifacts are vulnerable to be damaged, and it is difficult to guarantee the integrity of the fractured site. Therefore, the traditional geometric-driven splicing method is restricted. In this paper, aiming at the ceramic fragments with missing geometric information, a splicing method combined with surface texture and fracture contour is proposed. First, the debris texture feature line is extracted by using Splatting Lines method, that is, dense points of the 3D model are sampled, two depth images are rendered by different parameters of splatting, and the line image is generated by the difference between the two images. Secondly, this paper calculates the texture shape edge information, constructs the constraint conditions of the damaged texture and completes the preliminary matching. For the discrete point sets on the fracture boundary contour, this paper uses the genetic algorithm to calculate matching point pairs to obtain the final result. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve the splicing of the broken cultural relics, and the matching value is stable at 0.53 or above, which has certain advantages for the significant texture features and severely damaged fragments.
