Monitoring and Intervention of Noises in Intensive Care Unit

Objective To control the noises in intensive care unit(ICU) and to create a good and comfortable environment for treatment.Methods The sources of noises in ICU were identified and corresponding measures were taken.In a randomly selected month before and after the noise intervention measures were taken,the noises were continuously monitored on 24 h basis for 30 work days.Results The average intensity of noises before the intervention was((61.5±)3.7) dB and the intensity after the intervention was(44.6±6.4) dB.The intensity of noises after the intervention was significantly lower than that before the intervention at different time points(P0.01 for all).Conclusion The monitoring and noise-abatement measures in ICU are necessary and effective.
