Preparation and Characterization of Hydrophilic Magnetic Microspheres

To gain the hydrophilic magnetic microspheres,the P(St-MAA)magnetic microspheres are prepared by adding the monomer methacrylic acid (MAA)in the process of synthesizing the PSt magnetic microspheres by microemulsion polymerization.The magnetic properties,hydrophile and the functional group on the surfaces of the microspheres are investigated by different techniques (i.e.optical microscopy,contact angle measurement,vibrating sample magnetometer,FT-IR).The results indicate that the magnetic microspheres with the size of 1～5 μm are superparamagnetic with low Ms and small Hc values,dispersed with abundant functional groups (-COOH)on the surfaces,and well hydrophilic with the contact angle with water being 70°.
