Day lighting performance of a fractal window of first and second iterations

2021
Abstract The importance of Daylight in buildings has been carried out in widespread researches. An innovative side lighting strategy of day lighting through the application of fractals has been explored in the earlier works. This paper has probed further in the research of fractal windows by advancing the fractal window geometry to the next higher level of complexity by extending it to the second iteration. Day lighting design criteria have always been a critical challenge to designers with reference to illuminance, glare, energy levels… This paper focuses on the day lighting performance of a fractal window of first and second iterations. For this purpose computer simulations using IES–VE (Integrated Environmental Solutions–Virtual Environment) was used to simulate the illuminance levels, daylight factor, uniformity etc. in order to determine the performance of the fractal windows of both the iterations.
