Pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) is a key enzyme in glycolysis that is highly expressed in cancer. Here, Zhimin Lu and colleagues show that PKM2 can translocate to the nucleus in response to epidermal growth factor, where it contributes to -catenin-dependent gene activation. This non-metabolic function of PKM2 seems to be important for tumour cell proliferation.
