Comparative evaluation of effectiveness of Rotary ProTaper Retreatment files and Reciprocating WaveOne Retreatment files in the retrieval of root canal filling material - A Systematic Review

Aim: To assess the effectiveness of Rotary Protaper Retreatment file and Reciprocating Wave one Retreatment file movements to remove root canal filling material. Methods: A systematic search using search strategies was carried out in PubMed and Google scholar for the articles published between 1st January 2000 and31stDecember 2019.Studies comparing the results of WaveOne and Rotary ProTaper for re-root canal treatment in the English language with comparative in-vitro study designs were included while the studies reporting the use of WaveOne and ProTaper systems for disinfecting canals, assessing fracture resistance and data reported through the letter to editors, review articles, short communications and conference proceeding were excluded from this review. Results: A preliminary search yielded 88 studies through Google scholar and search strategy used in PubMed, out of which 7 articles were retained in the final step of the article selection process. The WaveOne and Rotary ProTaper for retreatment were found to be effective in all the studies. Moreover, both systems were found comparable in their effectiveness. Conclusion:Waveone reciprocating file systems and Rotary ProTaper retreatment file system both prove effective in removing root canal filling material. None of the systems is superior to the other
