This article has been originally written for an online encyclopedia. The term ‘social identification’ is widely used in sociology of youth, referring to a specific situation young people face under different historical conditions in various countries. The notion of identification of youth forms the core of the sociology of youth as we know it now. In preparing the electronic edition of “Sociology of Youth: An Electronic Encyclopedia”, we treated social identification of youth as its base underlying concept.
