Surveillance apparatus and method using change of video image

An apparatus and a method for monitoring a robbery using a change in a video image are disclosed. The method for monitoring a change in a video image comprises: receiving a video image; specifying an area of interest using geometrical characteristics of a picture image from the picture image at a point in time of the video image; storing the area coordinate and the picture image of the specified area of interest; and detecting changes in the area of interest within the video image by using the stored area coordinate and the picture image.
