The Preparation and Characterization of Some Pillared Clays

1989
Abstract Several kinds of pillared clays with different layer separation, different pillars and surface areas were prepared by gel dispersion method. These pillared clays have considerable thermal and hydrothermal stabilities. The layer separation of silica pillared clays is 1.0 to 1.4 nm. or larger; the largest surface area is 450 m 2 /g; the recrystallization temperature of silica pillared montmorillonite (Si-CLM) and silica pillared rectorite (Si-CLR) on DTA curves are 950°C and 1030°C, respectively. Different pillars slightly affect the stability of the pillared clays, but different types of clays give different thermal stabilities in resulting pillared clays.
