POLYMER CONCRETE PATCHING. VOLUME II

1980
This report discusses the use of impermeable, high strength, quick setting polymer concrete as a patching for deteriorated bridge decks. A complete procedure for bridge deck patching is presented. Both laboratory and field tests of polymer concrete were performed. Experiments include determination of cure time and compressive strength for various monomer mixes. Field patches on several Oklahoma bridge decks were placed with the help of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. The two commercial patching materials, Dupont's Crylon and Rohm and Haas' Plexicrete were also tested. Formulation of the proper monomer system for a polymer concrete mix with suitable properties for bridge deck patching from 20 deg F to 130 deg F is presented. The cost of polymer concrete is estimated at about $16 per cubic foot of patch volume. (FHWA)
