Analysis of AIDS surveillance data in Shaanxi Province in 2005

Objective To understand present epidemic situation and forecast future epidemic trend of HIV infection in Shaanxi.Methods Data of HIV prevalence and HIV/AIDS cases were collected from sentinel surveillance,specific serum surveys,clinical studies and mass screening of high risk population in 2005,and statistical analysis was conducted for all the collected data.Results A total of 436 784 samples were tested for HIV antibodies in 2005,and 161 samples were confirmed to have been infected with HIV,among which 31 were AIDS patients and 19 died.The anti-HIV positive rate was 3.69/10,000.The sentinel surveillance detected 10 HIV carriers among drug users with an infection rate of 4%.Conclusion The HIV/AIDS epidemic tends to grow in this province,especially among IDUs according to province-wide sentinel surveillance.Therefore,the control of HIV spread in IDUs will be a priority of HIV/AIDS prevention and control in Shaanxi province.
