The role of propensity to trust and the five factor model across the trust process

2018
Abstract The current research explored the role of personality in the trust process. Specifically, we explored the relationship between PT, the FFM, and trust beliefs, intentions, and behaviors. Results indicate PT accounts for significant variance across all three aspects of the trust process, predicting beyond the FFM. The FFM was a significant predictor of trust beliefs and intentions but did not account for significant variance in trust behaviors. The current research underscores the utility of personality in the trust process and the use of specific measures to predict criterion. Global and specific measures of personality explain significant aspects of the trust process and can assist researchers in understanding the processes underlying trust interactions.
