The Road Traffic Data

The data are analysed concerning the vehicle traffic on a national road. These data are the numbers of vehicles passing by a measurement station during one hour, and the data items (“objects” or “observations”) are individual days, characterised, therefore, by 24 numbers each. These observations have been classified according to the days of the week, since such daily traffic intensity profiles are deemed to primarily depend upon the day of the week. Reverse clustering is applied to verify this classification, with a robust, but also somewhat surprising effect: a different classification appears to be proposed by the results from the reverse clustering.
