Primer nivel de atención en el enfrentamiento a la COVID-19 en Cuba

Introduction : In Cuba, anti-epidemic fight has permitted to control communicable diseases, from the first level of healthcare, while strengthening epidemiological surveillance systems and the development of science and technology. Under these circumstances, COVID-19, the current emergency of national and international public health, will not be the exception. Objective : To describe the actions developed at the first level of healthcare as part of the confrontation of COVID-19 in Cuba. Methods : A bibliographic review was carried out, between March and September 2020, in General Calixto Garcia School of Medical Sciences. Inclusion criteria were taken into account, in order to narrow the search about the actions developed at the first level of healthcare as part of the confrontation of COVID-19 in Cuba, through virtual biomedical data platforms, such as SciELO , Lilacs , Medline , in addition to Google Scholar and Cubadebate. Development : The training process, active community screening, identification of differentiated areas at polyclinic level and outbreak control measures, as well as medical care for vulnerable groups and convalescent COVID-19 patients, stand out among the actions carried out at the first level of healthcare for the confrontation of the disease in Cuba. Conclusions : The first level of healthcare is essential in these times, as long as it offers, by means of developing comprehensive actions, a timely health response, capable of preventing, controlling and treating COVID-19 effectively.
