Fabrication of the PLA/Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu2+, Dy3+ long-persistent luminescence composite fibers by electrospinning

2013
Abstract A novel one-dimensional PLA/Sr 2 MgSi 2 O 7 :Eu 2+ , Dy 3+ composite fibers composed of long-persistent luminescence nanoparticles of Sr 2 MgSi 2 O 7 :Eu 2+ , Dy 3+ and ploy lactic acid were successfully synthesized by means of electrospinning. Phase, morphology and luminescence properties were examined. The composite fibers contain 12.5 wt% of nanoparticles. It was found that the fibers (diameter 1.5 μm) with nanoparticles (size 200 nm) have an emission band from 410 nm to 590 nm and a major emission peak at 468 nm. It’s strongest excitation peak was at 360 nm. Similarly, it’s phosphorescent emission spectra have an emission band from 410 nm to 590 nm and a major emission peak at 468 nm. Decay curves of the composite fiber have a similar tendency with Sr 2 MgSi 2 O 7 :Eu 2+ , Dy 3+ pure powder, but with lower intensity. The fibers have the properties of both long-persistent luminescence nanoparticles and PLA of polymer fibers, combining phosphorescence, fluorescence, plasticity, elasticity, self-degradation altogether. As these characters of above, the fibers has applications possibility in textiles, optical detectors, and vivo imaging.
