Supporting Feedback Phases of Self-Regulated Learning in University Settings through Canvas-Based Discussions

2018
Within self-regulated learning, different feedback phases are imperative for learning success. Promising approaches for supporting students in these critical phases are forums and virtual interactive whiteboard systems. In this work-in-progress paper, we combine both approaches into a canvas-based system. Simultaneously, the system supports teachers by reducing workload and allowing evaluation of learning success; they can assess individual students and entire courses. The entire creation history of contributions is accessible. Users can recreate exactly how contributions were created, allowing targeted feedback like while quoting a contribution until a specified moment in the creation process, and continuing by modifying or amending.
