Design of a high current RFQ for neutron production

2004
Abstract A high current Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) accelerator was designed to produce neutrons by accelerating a 50 mA deuteron beam to 2.0 MeV for the thermal neutron generator project at Peking University. Limited by the 400 kW RF power available only and the demands of radiation protection, beam dynamics studies were performed with the computer code PARMTEQM to achieve both a compact structure and high transmission efficiency. A simulation for varying of input beam parameters has been carried out to check the parameter-sensitivity of the RFQ design.
