In-vitro EVALUATION OF ANTI-OXIDANT AND ANTI-DIABETIC ACTIVITY OF Calotropis procera

2021
Introduction: Herbal plants are known for their anti-oxidant and other various therapeutic activities. Mostly the active chemical moieties of the herbal plants are flavonoids in nature. In the present study, Calotropis procera was evaluated for its anti-oxidant and anti-diabetic activity. Materials and Methods: First the ethanolic extract of leaves of the plant was prepared and then subjected to the in-vitro anti-oxidant and anti-diabetic evaluation. Anti-oxidant activity was evaluated by using DPPH and hydrogen peroxide assay whereas Alpha amylase assay was performed to evaluate the anti-diabetic activity. The result of the extract was also compared with the standard compound. Results and Discussion: The IC50 value for extract was found to be less when compared with the standard which represents that extract have good anti-oxidant and anti-diabetic activity.
