Activity of gastric mucosal NO synthase in duodenal ulcer

: The paper covers the results of 32 endoscopic studies. The D. E. Korzhevsky procedure was used to determine the activity of NADP.H diaphorase, a NO-synthase marker, in gastric mucosal biopsy specimens from patients with acute and scarring peptic ulcer. A high activity of NO synthase was found in patients with acute ulcer and its inhibition was ascertained in those with scarring ulcer. The findings lead to the conclusion that NO-dependent mechanisms are involved in the pathogenesis of an ulcerative process.
