Selection of best hydrogen transport mode in the hydrogen supply chain
2009
The hydrogen transport is a key part of the economic, energy, and environmental aspects of the hydrogen supply chain. This paper analyzes "point-to-point" transport scenarios with the hydrogen transport scale and transport distance as the two characteristic parameters, to calculate the cost, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions of three hydrogen transport modes (tube trailer, gaseous pipeline and liquid truck). The results show that the best hydrogen transport mode depends on the transport scenarios. If the economic performance is the primary evaluation criterion, the tube trailer mode is best for small scale, short distance transport, the gaseous pipeline mode is best for large scale and medium to long distance transport; and the liquid truck mode is best for long distance transport.
