Designing a Wireless Network For Al-Khuwair Area in The Sultanate of Oman

2007
Path loss occurs when the received signal becomes weaker and weaker due to increasing distance between mobile station (MS) and base station (BS), even if there are no obstacles between the transmitting (Tx) and receiving (Rx) antenna. The path loss between a pair of antenna is the ratio of transmitted power to the received power, usually expressed in decibels. It includes all of the possible elements of loss associated with interactions between the propagating wave and any object between transmit and receive antennas. Propagation model, which is a set of mathematical expressions, diagrams and algorithms used to find propagation loss. There are three kinds of models; empirical models, semi-deterministic models and deterministic models. In this paper, wepropose the new propagation model used for Al-Khuwair region. We accomplish this by investigating the variation in path loss between the measured and predicted values, according to the Okumura-Hata propagation model for a cell in Al-Khuwair region. Then, we intend to modify the Okumura-Hata model according to the results obtained in our investigation. We will then verify our modified model by applying it to another cell. The mean square error (MSE) was calculated between measured path loss values and those predicated on basis of Okumura-Hata model for an urban area.
