Practice parameters for ambulatory anorectal surgery.

2003
In recent literature, there is a lack of uniform parameters for outpatient hemorrhoid, fistula, fissure, pilonidal cyst or condyloma surgery. The complexity of patient support needs, surgical techniques, anesthesia requirements, nature and extent of disease, and postoperative requirements make it difficult to define rigorous parameters. Therefore, any surgical plan must include the option for inpatient care, should it become necessary as a consequence of intraoperative or postoperative developments.
