Theory of the electrolysis of water

Based only on simple electrodynamics relations with no use of Arrhenius’ ionic hypothesis, an equation relating the polarization current density to the potential is derived and used in describing the kinetics of electrolysis by an example of water decomposition in a wide range of potentials.
