Experimental study of plasma injection into a programmed magnetic field

The authors give experimental results on the capture of an injected plasma by a rising magnetic field. It is shown that a long-lived plasma pinch is formed, localized at a distance from the wall of the vacuum chamber: the plasma density is ~1012 cm−3.
