Restriction Enzyme Analysis (REA) of Group A Streptococcal (GAS) M-Serotypes 1, 3, and 28

Beginning in the mid-1980s and continuing through the mid-1990s there has been a world wide resurgence of severe group A streptococcal infections. Initially, many of these infections were associated with serotype M-1. More recently, serotype M-3 has also been frequently implicated. Previous investigations from this laboratory have observed an association with many other serotypes including M serotype 28, associated with severe infections5.
