Structural Elements of Sporopollenin from the Pollen of Torreya californica Torr. (Gymnospermae): Using the 1H-NMR Technique

Sporopollenin was isolated and purified from pollen of the gymnospermae Torreya califor­ nica using an enzymatic treatm ent followed by extraction with organic solvents. 'H -N M R (ID and 2D) was used for analysis of this biopolym er and reveals the presence of three phenolic compounds. Com parison with the analysis of sporopollenin from the angiosperm ae Typha angustifolia L. shows high similarity betw een the arom atic compounds.
