Tracking a Serial Filter

The Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District in northern California conducted pilot testing of extreme/high-rate serial filtration (EHRSF) to see if the process could meet water treatment objectives while operating at much higher loading rates than currently allowed. In the first side-by-side comparison of three types of serial filtration systems, the study showed that extreme/high-rate serial filtration processes could meet Surface Water Treatment Rule requirements and provide treatment that is equivalent to conventional treatment methods. Due to its greater process efficiencies, the EHRSF process also offers significant potential savings in construction and O&M costs.
