Mass asymmetric fission barriers for {sup 90,94,98}Mo

1993
The cross sections of complex fragments emitted from the compound nuclei {sup 90.94,98}Mo, with excitation energies ranging from 60 to 140 MeV, have been measured. Excitation functions have been constructed for each atomic number (Z), and the conditional fission barriers extracted from these excitation functions. The experimental barriers will compared with barriers predicted by the Rotating Finite Range Model (RFRM), as well as with the Rotating Liquid Drop Model (RLDM). The RFRM predicts that the conditional barriers should be higher for the heavier of the isotopes; measuring the barrier heights for three widely spaced isotopes of molybdenum will quantify the mass dependence of the barriers.
